I was convinced that this stuff was too smelly for human consumption. No way I was ever going to voluntarily drink a fermented mixture of old, crushed apples. Yet, here I am. Drinking this stuff on the reg. Every morning to be exact, with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice (this actually helps mask the flavor of the ACV), and a dash of cinnamon.
The health benefits are numerous, but I mainly drink it to aid in digestion. Apple Cider Vinegar that contains “the mother“ is filled with minerals and beneficial bacteria that even Hippocrates used to treat all sorts of things. I had the worst acid reflux and heartburn during my last pregnancy, and a teaspoon of ACV in a little bit of water relieved it quickly every single time without ever having to take Tums. A lot of people think that acid reflux is caused by having too much acid in the stomach, but it’s really quite the opposite. It’s from not having enough stomach acid. Repeated use of antacids (Tums) can do more harm than good since they actually weaken the acid in your stomach. Ever notice why people with acid reflux have to keep Tums in their purse? It’s like a revolving door.
The enzymes and acid in ACV also help fight the overgrowth of candida (yeast) in the body. So if you find yourself with persistent yeast infections, try adding ACV to your daily wellness regimen. I like to add fresh lemon juice for extra detoxifying properties. Your liver and lymphatic system will thank you for it!
RECIPE:
1 TBSP ACV (I use Bragg’s)
1 Cup filtered water
Juice from 1/2 lemon
1 tsp cinnamon
I mix it all in a mug and drink immediately with a glass straw. You don’t have to use a straw, but I prefer to so that it doesn’t erode my tooth enamel. Always follow with plain water to rinse your teeth.
